writing to ask the brothership if anyone has encountered push back from a job site because of where you did your online OSHA training. Some brothers are being turned away from jobs due to misinformation. It is believed that only one OSHA training is accepted by the DOB and this is incorrect. Many of the other training companies have come into compliance with the new legislation but jobs are still turning members away.
Please respond to this blog if this has happened to you. The business agent had not ever heard of this until today?!?!?!?!?
You have to take online red velvit certified 10 hr. ohsas certified for general building industry in nyc.it has to be a sanction ohsa 10 ceertification afflicated with ny construction jobs to be ohsa approved.Read carefully what it is sanction under,after taking couse,go down to school to see if u are approved to have your 5 yr. training.
i took both the general industry and the construction one but Tishman says the DOB only accepts the one from Clicksafety online because it has voice recognition. Other companies have done other things to be in compliance so not sure why the union is allowing a company to dictate what online resource we use. I have documentation that proves the one i took is in compliance but no one wants to correct Tishman. They are turning guys away even though they the guys are qualified. The school has no clue about the discrepancy and tells you just pick the one for NY, which i did. My wife is about to go to the news.
we are beyond that point now and funny thing is that you think the person at the school would promote themselves that way and actually inform us properly??? they should know that there are these discrepancies and use them to their advantage. But NOOOO they stay mediocre and complacent.
Hi Daleybread I hope you got on the Tishman job. Steward its a shame that the dc allowed themselves to be tools of the contractors. dailybread is correct to not trust them to do whats best for the members who pay their salary. We shouldnt give up on being union but we have to critically examine the people that are running the union so poorly. Dalebread knows me and I always advocate the members coming to meetings and forcing the leadership to the members will. until then it will be more of the same and worse. After all steward we have the largest number of members in the city trade unions and we dont have a contract yet most of the other trades do. So ask yourself why? Then ask yourself what kind of leaders would allow that to continue? The teachers in W Virginia in a right to work state got a contract why cant our leaders? Im not admonishing you Im just asking you to think with more consideration. i know you always comment well about being pro union. Thank you
