The old 1456. Let's see, from 1999 to 2010 went from $600,000 to $3,500,000. Had an unemployment fund. $125 per week for 12 weeks = $1500. Paid out $480,000 in the year of 2010 to their unemployed members. A Accidental death insurance policy for their members ,$25,000 if the accident happened at home and $40,000 if the accident happened on the job. A Long term disability policy $2,000 per month for 2 years = $48,000 for a member on disability. A Scholarship fund,6 scholarships a year at $10,000 per student = $60,000 a year for 1456 members children. And the Dockbuilders family picnic day. Oh and let's not forget the 90% market share. (Not to many unions can say that) Seems like the old 1456 was doing pretty good. No other local in the NYCDCC had it as good as the DOCKBUILDERS
My opinion, the 1456 membership first needs to apologize to Mr Eric Gundersen for not having his back when he had ours. Then needs to beg him to start another movement to break away from the ubc.Only this time leave Biscelgie out of it.
